Restoration of field gate, cast iron posts and cast iron rabbit fencing

Detail of cast iron rabbit fencing which was extremely difficult to cast.

On getting a very angry phone call from Lord Martin Fitz-Allen Howard, I went to see him. When I arrived he was picking pieces of iron out of the grass. He exclaimed that the gardener had driven the lawn mower into the fence destroying the cast ironwork and then driven the Lawn mower into the Ha-Ha exclaiming ‘I’ve sacked him of course’. We managed to reconstruct one panel and our founders used it as a pattern for casting several panels which Lord Martin loved. They were cast in SG iron so it could not happen again. Brockfield Park.
